We Ride!

Today is April 11th, day 2 of our ride across the country. Tonight we are in Lee, FL. But let me tell you a little about how we arrived at Lee.
Sunday morning we walked our bikes on the Beach in St. Augustine and backed them up to the surf and let the salt water roll up on the back tires. Took a few pictures, and walked up to the sidewalk, put on our cycling shoes and helmets. Had a word of prayer, and road west. St. Augustine is a neat place, were we were we immediately headed over a large bridge and cruised down into town. Yesterday was a warm day, very humid. We saw a lot of scenery along the way and most of it was beautiful. Lunch was good; we stopped at 60 miles and ate. Then we rode on, and it got warm really quick. According to the locals we had record heat here. It was 92 was a lot of humidity! We rode all afternoon; part of our route took us down a nice SHADY bike trail. This was refreshing after riding under the sun all afternoon. Once we finished the trail we road through Gainesville, and past the University of Florida. There were a lot of folks out and about on a Sunday afternoon there. About 4 miles from our destination we meet another cyclist named Carl; he helped us ride up the last hills of the day and into the First Church of the Nazarene. Carl asked if we could circle up for a word of prayer, and he prayed for our trip. The showers in the church felt amazing and dinner was great. A church meeting was letting out so a few people stopped by and wished us luck. We sleep in different rooms in the fellowship hall. We had cots and air mattresses and made that hall our home for the night.
We decided to leave earlier the second morning to try and get out of the heat earlier. So we were up at 5:30am, ate breakfast at 6, and we were on the bike around 6:45 and heading out. With the help of our amazing crew, we navigated through Gainesville and heading out a county road toward Lee, FL. The morning was good; a light wind to our backs, and the temperatures didn't get out of control. We stopped for lunch around 60 miles again, had a great hot ham and cheese sandwich. We got back on the bike and continued to ride. Today we saw a lot of animals, a majority of them alive and 1 on his way out of this world. We saw a possum in the road laying there with his back end mangled up. UNTIL he lifted his head and looked at me. He was still alive and looking around! I didn't see the point in running it over on my bike as I wasn't sure if that would do the job or not. But there were a lot of cattle, some horses and donkeys and even a deer farm. We continued to ride; the heat was increasing and was beating us up. The wind continued to increase all afternoon, the last 9 miles it was head wind the entire time. We finally arrived in Lee, FL it was great to be here. Showered and ate dinner. Talked to the Pastor and his wife for a while, and that brings me to now, updating my blog.
They are calling for thunderstorms tonight/tomorrow morning. This excites us because we have rain gear and fenders! Just kidding, we are thankful we have those things, but we are mainly excited because it will lower the temperatures.
Thank you for everyone’s support across the country, we have a long ways to go, and some hard days ahead of us, but we will keep chipping away at it.

I am on twitter and try to update more often on there, follow me @kylerworley

Good night all!
